Mammillaria hertrichiana is a species of the genus Mammillaria in the cactus family(Cactaceae). The specific epithet honors the American and curator of the Huntington Botanical Gardens in California William Hertrich (1878–1966).
description
Mammillaria hertrichiana forms larger pads. The flattened, spherical, cloudy green shoots are up to 7 centimeters in diameter. The irregularly angular warts contain plenty of milky juice . The axillae are covered with plenty of dense wool and with a few bristles. The 4 to 5 central spines are needle-like, straight, stiff and brown. The upper ones are 0.5 to 1 centimeter long, the lower up to 2.5 centimeters long. The 12 to 15 radial spines are white to lightly colored with a partly dark tip. They are 0.3 to 1 centimeter long.
The deep pink to purple-pink colored flowers are up to 1 centimeter long and reach a diameter of 1.8 centimeters. The scarlet, club-shaped fruits are up to 3 centimeters long. They contain light brown seeds .
Distribution and systematics
Mammillaria hertrichiana is common in the Mexican states of Sonora and Chihuahua .
