Skaun is a commune (municipality) in Fylke Trøndelag in central Norway .
The administrative seat is in Børsa . Other settlements are Buvika , Venn , Viggja and Eggkleiva . The community is rural. Most residents commute to their workplaces in Trondheim, 25 kilometers to the east .
According to legend, the Viking Einar Tambarskjelve once moored his ship to four huge boulders ( bauta ) in Børsa ; these rocks - the Iron Age building stones of Børsa - have found their way into the municipal coat of arms .
The Kristin Lavransdatter trilogy by Nobel Prize winner Sigrid Undset has its setting to a large extent in the area, in medieval Husaby near Venn.
