Malvik is a municipality in the Central Norwegian administrative district of Trøndelag .
It borders the city of Trondheim to the west and includes several localities, the largest of which are the administrative center of Hommelvik and the villages of Vikhammer and Hundhammer .
Johan Nygaardsvold was born in Malvik in 1879 , the Prime Minister of Norway from 1935 to 1945 (from 1940 the Norwegian government-in-exile in London).

Malvik is east of Trondheim , which is by far the largest city in the region (and Norway's third largest city). Many residents work in Trondheim. A number of industrial companies are located in Malvik. The northern part of Malvik is on the Trondheimfjord . Most of the inhabitants live on the coast. Most of the schools , general public buildings and workplaces are placed there. The community center is Hommelvik , which is approximately 25 kilometers from Trondheim. For a long time, Hommelvik was the place with the largest population in Malvik, but it has now been overtaken by Vikhammer and Hundhammeren.
The southern part of the municipality is mainly used for agriculture , is forested and has very popular hiking and cross-country skiing opportunities. The Homla River flows into the Trondheimsfjord in the north of the municipality. Lake Jonsvatnet is located on the western border of the municipality.
history
Malvik parish was founded in 1891 after splitting off from Strinda parish. On January 1, 1914, a small part of Lånke, with 38 inhabitants, was assigned to Malvik. On July 1, 1953, a small part of Malvik with 37 inhabitants at the time was assigned to the municipality of Strinda.
Sports
The largest sports club in Malvik is «Malvik Idrettslag». This offers many sports, including: football, handball, cross-country skiing, swimming, athletics, "orienteering" and cycling.
«Malvik Idrettslag» focuses primarily on children's sports. The most popular sports for children are soccer and handball. The club has the largest indoor football stadium in Norway, the "Abra Hall". The largest indoor soccer tournament in Norway is held there every year.

There are numerous schools in Malvik, including five primary schools, one each in Vikhammer, Vikhammeråsen, Hommelvik, Saksvik and Sveberg. There are two lower secondary schools in Malvik (grades 8-10). Malvik also has an upper secondary school, “Malvik Videregående Skole”. The grammar school offers four different courses of study.
