TechSAR (also TECSAR , Ofeq 8 or Polaris ) is the name of an Israeli radar reconnaissance satellite that was launched on January 21, 2008 from the Satish Dhawan Space Center on Sriharikota with an Indian PSLV launcher. It weighs 260 kg and carries a Synthetic Aperture Radar as its payload . Reliability considerations and the desire to bring the satellite onto a high inclination orbit spoke against the Israeli carrier Shavit and the launch site at Palmachim .

TechSAR expands the Israeli satellite series:

  • Ofeq (optical reconnaissance satellites)
  • Amos (communications satellite)
  • Eros (optical dual-use earth observation satellites with up to 1 m resolution)
