Roan is a place and a former municipality in Fylke Trøndelag in Central Norway . The commune was on the Fosen peninsula on the North Sea coast . In addition to the eponymous administrative center Roan, it included several small villages both on the coast and in the hinterland, including Straum, Hofstad and Bessaker. As part of the local government reform in Norway , Roan was merged with Åfjord on January 1, 2020 .

957 inhabitants lived on an area of ​​377 km² (as of January 1, 2019). The municipality number was 5019.

economy

The main occupations were agriculture, fish and shrimp fishing.

Between summer 2007 and summer 2008, Norway's second largest wind farm "Bessakerfjellet Vindpark" was built near the village of Bessaker on the ridge of the same name. A total of 25 wind turbines with a total nominal output of 57.5 MW were built for the Trondheim energy provider TrønderEnergi by the German company Enercon GmbH .
