Claes Andrén

Claes Andrén (* 1949 ) is a Swedish zoologist , professor of conservation biology at the University of Gothenburg and scientific director of Nordens Ark zoo since 2006 .

Throughout his entire scientific career, he has participated in numerous international herpetological projects. In the late 1970s he was particularly committed to the reintroduction of the fire-bellied toad in Sweden. For a program of the Swedish nature conservation authority Naturvårdsverket for the conservation of native amphibians , he created a catalog of tasks.

Together with his colleague Göran Nilson , Claes Andrén made several nature films , some of which were shown on Swedish television. Since the 1970s, Andrén made several study trips abroad to map the local creeping and amphibian populations. He mainly visited Turkey , but also the Soviet republics (today's states of Armenia , Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan ), to which only a few Western researchers were granted access.
