Kjell Jonevret (born June 28, 1962 in Stockholm ) is a former Swedish football player . The offensive player began a coaching career after his active playing career.

Career

Jonevret started his career at IF Brommapojkarna . For the club, which is mainly known for its youth work, he played in the lower-class league area until the end of 1983. He then moved to AIK in the Allsvenskan . There he could not assert himself and returned to IF Brommapojkarna after 16 first division games in a year and a half. In 1988 he tried abroad and joined Viking Stavanger when Swedish coach Benny Lennartsson brought him and his compatriot Per Holmberg to Norway. With the second division, he rose to the first division and won the Norwegian Cup in 1989. After three years he returned to Sweden in late 1990 and then played for Vasalunds IF in the second division until the end of 1992 .

After his career ended, Jonevret moved to the coaching bench of Vasalunds IF as an assistant to Erik Hamrén . In 1995 he returned to IF Brommapojkarna as a junior coach before he returned to Hamrén a year later and looked after AIK in the Allsvenskan. With the team around Pascal Simpson , Patrick Englund , Patrik Fredholm and Johan Mjällby , he won the national cup twice in a row . However, since success in the league failed to materialize, Hamrén was replaced by Stuart Baxter after the 1997 season and Jonevret was released at the same time.

In 1998, Jonevret started his first position as coach at the second division IK Sirius . After a season he was hired by league rivals Västerås SK , with whom he qualified for the newly created Superettan in late 1999 . Before the 2001 season he was recruited by the league rival FC Café Opera , with whom he was under contract until the end of 2003.

In the summer of 2004, the first division club Djurgårdens IF signed Jonevret as the successor to Zoran Lukić , who had resigned from his post after a moderate start to the season and discussions about a new division of responsibilities within the club. If he had led the club to fourth place in the 2004 season , he won the final of the national cup with the team around Johan Arneng , Tobias Hysén , Matías Concha and Toni Kuivasto . In the following season he dominated both the championship and the cup with the team and won the double with DIF . As a result, he was named Sweden Coach of the Year. In the 2006 season , however, he could not confirm the success and slipped into the lower midfield. The Stockholm Club then fired him at the end of September that year.

In early 2007 Jonevret took over the coaching position at the Norwegian club Molde FK . At the end of his first season, he led the second division into the Tippeligaen . After leading the team there into safe midfield, he moved with the club at the end of the 2009 season as runner-up behind Rosenborg Trondheim in the UEFA Europa League . While he just failed there at the German representative VfB Stuttgart , he slipped in the league with the team in the relegation battle. Ultimately, the club sacked him after a series of ten games without a win in late August 2010.

In February 2017, the South African soccer club Orlando Pirates signed him as a coach. Jonevret signed a three-year contract.
