Patrick Englund (born December 28, 1965 in Uppsala ) is a former Swedish football player and coach. The defender and midfielder , who played in Sweden and Switzerland during his career, is now working as a player agent.
Career
Career start in Sweden and move to Switzerland
Englund started playing soccer at Slätta SK . Before the first division season in 1985 he moved to IK Brage in the Allsvenskan . In the following three and a half years he played for the club in Sweden's top division and missed the championship finals with the team in the 1987 season only because of the poorer goal difference compared to the same point competitor Östers IF as fifth.
In the summer of 1988 Englund left his home country and joined the Swiss club FC Lugano . With the team he joined up in 1995 in the National League A on, interrupted only by a 1991/92 season with AC Bellinzona in the National League B . In 1993 he won his first title with FC Lugano when the club won the final of the Swiss Cup with a 4-1 win over Grasshopper Club Zurich .
Return to Sweden and title wins
In July 1995 Englund returned to Sweden and signed a contract with AIK . At the club from Solna, he initially established himself as a regular player and moved with the team in the summer of 1996 in the Swedish cup final against Malmö FF , which was won by a goal by Pascal Simpson with a 1-0 success. Due to various injuries, he kept falling out. Therefore he could not participate in the title defense of the cup the following year by a 2-1 final win against IF Elfsborg . In the 1998 season he returned to the football field as a regular under coach Stuart Baxter . In 20 league games in which he was able to score a goal, he contributed to winning the Von Rosens Cup for the Swedish national champion alongside Nebojša Novaković , Michael Brundin , Johan Mjällby , Mike Kjølø and Thomas Lagerlöf . The following year he was only partially on the field due to injury. Nevertheless, he was used in the two finals against IFK Göteborg and scored the game-winning goal in the 1-0 first leg win, which meant the title win after the 0-0 draw in the second leg. After the end of the season, he ended his active career due to ongoing injury problems.
After the active career
After the end of his career, Englund first worked as a player agent and TV commentator. In the autumn of 2002 and 2003 he jumped in briefly as a coach for his home club Slätta SK . In January 2004 he returned to AIK as assistant coach to the Englishman Richard Money and signed a two-year contract at his last play station. After differences about the game system to be played, Money resigned from his coaching position at the beginning of April of that year and Englund took over the coaching position together with Novaković as an assistant. In the 2004 season , however, the success failed and he only reached a relegation place with the team. In November of that year, the association's board decided to separate Englund and AIK.
After leaving as a coach, Englund started working as a FIFA-licensed player agent with Incanto AB.
