Nebojša Novaković (born October 29, 1964 in Sarajevo , Yugoslavia ) is a former Bosnian football player . The former striker , who won several national titles as a player with Swedish club AIK , is currently working as an assistant coach in Northern Europe .

Career

Novaković began playing football at Bratstvo Vojkovići . From 1984 he played for Famos Sarajevo and Dinamo Vojkovići in Yugoslav professional football. To escape the emerging Yugoslav Wars, he accepted an offer from the Swedish club Vasalunds IF in 1991 to play in the Swedish second division .

In 1993 Novaković moved to Djurgårdens IF (DIF) in Allsvenskan . After some teething problems, the striker was able to establish himself with the first division. After three years for the club, he moved to local rivals AIK in the spring of 1997.

Novaković had his most successful time with his new employer. After initial hostility from the AIK supporters because he had come from the DIF, he attracted attention in his first competitive game for the club from Solna. On March 6, 1997, the club appeared as the reigning cup winner in the European Cup Winners' Cup against FC Barcelona in Camp Nou and Novaković gave in the first minute of the preparatory work for the 1-0 goal by Pascal Simpson . However, the Catalan club won the game 3-1 and after a 1-1 draw in the second leg, which was remarkable for the Swedish team, they failed because of the eventual title winner.

In the summer of 1997, Novaković was involved in defending the Svenska Cup with a 2-1 win in the final over IF Elfsborg and in the 1997 first division season he was able to convince as the club's top scorer. The following season was even more successful as he reached the tenth championship title with the club in the club's history. Also in 1999 he won the title when the Swedish Cup was won again. In the 1999/2000 Champions League season , AIK reached the main round and they met FC Barcelona again. On September 14, 1999, Novaković brought his colors in the 72nd minute lead, but the Catalans managed in the last five minutes the turnaround to a 2-1 away win at Råsundastadion . At the end of the group stage, AIK was eliminated from the competition as bottom of the table with only one point. In 2001 he left the club after more than 100 first division games and ended the 2002 season with the lower class Väsby IK , where he worked as an assistant coach under Rikard Norling in the 2003 season .

In 2004 Novaković returned to AIK and worked in Patrick Englund's coaching team . Although this was dismissed after unsuccessful relegation, Novaković stayed with the club and was under the newly committed Norling assistant coach. When the qualification for international business was again missed in the first division season in 2008 , AIK dismissed the coaching team. For the following season he went to Norway to assist Patrick Walker , who has worked in Sweden for many years, at Sandefjord Fotball in the Tippeligaen . After two years he returned to AIK to complete Andreas Alm's team as an assistant trainer . After Alms resigned in the spring of 2016, he worked again with Norling as his successor.

In January 2018 Novaković moved from AIK to cooperation partner Vasalunds IF in the fourth-class Division 2 with the aim of being successful with the club that had been relegated from Division 1 on the one hand and developing players for AIK there on the other. As division 2 champion Norra Svealand , he returned with the club after only two defeats this season in 30 games with eight points ahead of runner-up Karlbergs BK directly back into the third division.
