Arthur Richard Albiston (born July 14, 1957 in Edinburgh ) is a Scottish football player and football coach.

Career

Player career

The defensive player joined Manchester United in July 1972 . Albiston signed his first professional contract in July 1974. Albiston made his debut for United in a League Cup game against local rivals Manchester City in 1974. He mainly played on the left-back position. The Brit won the FA Cup with Manchester United in 1977, 1983 and 1985 . In August 1988, the Scot moved to West Bromwich Albion , where his ex-trainer Ron Atkinson worked. After only one season with the Hawthorns, he moved to Dundee United , then to Chesterfield FC , Chester City and Molde FK in Norway . Internationally, Albiston played 14 times for Scotland . He made his debut on October 14, 1981 against the Northern Irish selection . Albiston was a member of the Scottish selection for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico . He was used there once, in a 0-0 draw against the Hungarian national football team . Scotland were eliminated in the group stage as bottom group.

Further career

After retiring as a player, Albiston was coach of FC Droylsden (1996-1997) and youth coach at Manchester United (2000-2004). The Scot also worked as a columnist for the Manchester Independent.
