He is currently active at Tobol Qostanai , before that Kankawa was under contract for eight years with the Ukrainian club Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and has been active for the Georgian national football team since 2004 ; since September 2012 he has been their team captain .
Career
society
Kankawa, who is mostly used in defensive midfield , comes from the football school in Dinamo Tbilisi . He made his first-team debut at the age of 18 and was a member of the successful team that won the Georgian championship in 2004/05 and surprisingly reached the group stage in the UEFA Cup . Thus clubs from abroad became aware of the talent.
In the summer of 2005, the Russian first division side Alania Wladikawkas signed the teenager. Since the club was relegated at the end of the season, Kankawa, who was already a regular player, left Russia in the winter and moved to the Ukrainian capital to Arsenal Kiev . In the 0-0 win against FK Kharkiv in March 2006, the midfielder came first for his new club. In the following season Kankawa established himself in the regular lineup and offered respectable performances. Therefore, several clubs from the upper half of the table were interested in the services of the Georgian.
In the end, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk prevailed against the competition and signed him during the winter break. He signed a three-year contract. In the following years, the midfielder was mostly in the starting line-up until he was sidelined for almost two years in 2008 due to an injury. In order to collect game practice, Kankawa was awarded a year and a half to the league rivals Krywbas Krywyj Rih . There he found his way back to his old strength. Since his return to Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, he has been an integral part of the team with which the Georgian reached his career high point by moving into the final of the 2014/15 UEFA Europa League .
After the midfielder played a few more games for the Ukrainians at the beginning of the season, the French first division team Stade Reims announced Kankawa's commitment in mid-August. He signed a three-year contract with an option for another season.
National team
Kankawa made his international debut in September 2004 in the qualifier for the 2006 World Cup against Albania . In the 2-0 win at Micheil Meschi Stadium , he was substituted on by Alain Giresse in the 58th minute for Malchas Assatiani . Since the resignation of Kacha Kaladze in September 2012, the midfielder has been the captain of the national football team in his home country.

Rescuer
On March 30, 2014, Oleh Husjew of Dynamo Kiev collided with the opposing team's goalkeeper Denys Boyko after a free kick against Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk . Hussiev swallowed his tongue, which threatened to suffocate him. Djaba Kankava reacted immediately, pulling Husiev's tongue out of his throat, probably saving his life. The Georgian was then awarded the Ukrainian Order of Merit.
