Malchas Assatiani ( Georgian მალხაზ ასათიანი ; born August 4, 1981 in Kutaisi , Georgian SSR ) is a Georgian football player . He plays in the position of a defensive midfielder or a central defender and was most recently under contract with Lokomotiv Moscow .

Assatiani began his career in 1999 in his hometown with the Torpedo Kutaisi , with which he won the Georgian championship three times in a row between 2000 and 2002 . In 2003, after four years with Torpedo Kutaisi, he moved to the Moscow Lokomotiv Moscow Association . With locomotive he won the 2004 Russian Championship , in 2005 both the Russian Super Cup and the Commonwealth of Independent States Cup and the 2007 Russian Cup . In August 2008 he was loaned to Dynamo Kiev for one season . In December 2010 he announced that he wanted to leave the club for the next season.

National team

Assatiani made his national team debut in 2003. Although he scored a few important goals during qualifying for the 2006 World Cup , Georgia failed to qualify. To date, he has appeared in 42 international matches for Georgia, scoring four goals.
