The Mikheil Meskhi Stadium ( Georgian მიხეილ მესხის სახელობის სტადიონი ) is a rugby - and football stadium in the city of Tbilisi in Georgia . The former Lokomotiwi Stadium is the home of the Lokomotiv Tbilisi football club . In addition, the Georgian national soccer team and occasionally the national rugby union team and the country 's national rugby league team play games in the sports facility.
The stadium was built in 2001 and has a capacity of 27,223 seats. The playing area consists of natural grass. It is the second largest stadium in Georgia after the Boris Paichadze National Stadium . It was named in honor of the Georgian soccer player Micheil Meschi , who died in 1991.
