Youth 2000

Jugend 2000 (English: Youth 2000 ) is an international Catholic youth movement that was founded in 1990 after John Paul II called on young people at the World Youth Day in Santiago de Compostela in 1989 to become the main protagonists of the new evangelization . Youth 2000 has the subtitle “Awakening of the Young Church in the Spirit of Mary”.

Spirituality and Activities

The Youth 2000 claims to have the vision to gather the youth of the world around the Eucharist . Following the example of Our Lady, they want to become more and more people of worship and give testimony to Christ with their lives, to be guardians of the new morning and builders of a new civilization of love. This shows the essential components of the spirituality of Youth 2000 :

A personal relationship with Jesus through Holy Mass and Eucharistic Adoration .
A real devotion to Mary, Mother of God and Mother of the Church, especially through the rosary.
A deeper understanding of the Scriptures and fidelity to the teaching of the Church.

She also places particular emphasis on living together and celebrating faith, the sacrament of confession . There is no special spirituality, because Youth 2000 is open to all forms of spirituality; one can only say that the spirituality is shaped by Marians and contains typical elements of the so-called New Spiritual Communities , such as “ praise ”.

The Youth 2000 organizes trips to World Youth Days and other religious events, organizes prayer meetings, so-called Holy Hours or and offers prayer groups for mercy evenings in parishes. The group is active in the following dioceses: Augsburg, Bamberg, Eichstätt, Freiburg, Cologne, Mainz, Munich, Passau, Regensburg, Rottenburg-Stuttgart, Speyer. The 2000 youth in the dioceses of Augsburg, Eichstätt, Cologne, Munich, Passau, Regensburg and Speyer are recognized by the church. In Austria , Youth 2000 has so far only existed in Vorarlberg .

In Switzerland , "Jugend 2000" was founded on September 8, 1996 as an ecclesiastically recognized community. Jugend 2000 Schweiz works primarily in German-speaking Switzerland.

OmniaChristo

In the Archdiocese of Cologne , the Theresian family movement OmniaChristo emerged from the youth in 2000 , because they want to bind themselves to the spirituality of St. Theresa of Lisieux and also include believers over 35, i.e. want to expand the work. The youth work of the previous Youth 2000 Cologne is now integrated into the Theresian family movement .
