Forum of German Catholics
The Forum of German Catholics is a registered association under German law that was founded on September 30, 2000 in Fulda . It was initiated by Hubert Gindest , who is the chairman and speaker of the forum and who founded the association as a competitor to the Central Committee of German Catholics .
Goal setting
According to its own statements, the forum is aimed at committed lay people in the Roman Catholic Church who profess the “unadulterated and unabridged” faith, as it is summarized in the Catechism of the Catholic Church . Through congresses and other events, the forum wants to "bring people together with the aim of promoting the Catholic faith according to the teaching of the Church". On their website it says: “We do not see a new beginning in the continuation of structural debates and discussions of the statutes, but in personal conversion, in spiritual renewal, in obedience of faith and in loyalty to the Holy Father and the bishops associated with him.” With St. In the logo the forum wants to express its solidarity with the Pope . The forum publishes the monthly magazine Der Fels .
The most important event of the forum is the congress Joy in Faith , which has taken place annually since 2001 , which is chaired by Alois Konstantin zu Löwenstein-Wertheim-Rosenberg and opened in 2014 by the then Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith , Gerhard Ludwig Cardinal Müller . The congresses took place in Fulda and Regensburg , with the diocesan bishop and other spiritual dignitaries participating as celebrants or speakers. At the 2002 Congress was Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger, who later became Pope Benedict XVI. , Celebrant of the closing mass. The 2006 congress had around 1,800 participants.
In 2009, a resolution named Muslims as natural allies in the “fight against a culture of death”. Members of both religions would have to face together the "numerous challenges that a time remote from God gives us". The most dangerous threat to Europe is not Islam , but the “systematic displacement of Christian faith from politics and public life, which leads to Europe's intellectual immunodeficiency”.
