Christoph Casetti

Christoph Casetti (born June 4, 1943 in Zurich ; † February 9, 2020 in Chur ) was a Swiss Roman Catholic clergyman and episcopal vicar in the diocese of Chur .

Life

Christoph Casetti came from a Zurich family of architects. After graduating from high school in 1962, he studied philosophy in Rome and Paris and theology in Münster . In 1973 he was with the dissertation Anthropological considerations of moral theology of hope in theology in Münster doctorate . In 1974 he was ordained a priest in Chur and was vicar in Zurich. From 1982 he worked for the Ordinariate in Chur and was appointed Episcopal Vicar in Chur by Bishop Johannes Vonderach . Bishop Wolfgang Haas appointed him Vicar General for the Canton of Zurich from 1990 to 1993 . Since 1993 he has worked as a diocesan judge in the diocese of Chur and has been involved in pastoral care in marriage and family as well as in divorced people . In 2000, with the establishment of the ecclesiastical court in the Archdiocese of Vaduz, he also became a diocesan judge there. In 2002 he was called to be a member of the International Council for Catechesis of the Congregation for the Clergy . In 2002 he was appointed Domsextar by Bishop Amédée Grab, and in 2003 he was appointed custodian of Chur Cathedral .

On July 1, 2008, Bishop Vitus Huonder was appointed Episcopal Vicar for the pastoral department (marriage and family, youth, transmission of the faith, media). Casetti was the resident Canon of Chur and also worked as the diocese's press spokesman and official exorcist . He was perceived as “the most famous exorcist in Switzerland” and led a team of ten exorcists who were officially licensed in the diocese of Chur, far more than in any other German-speaking diocese. Most recently, Casetti worked as episcopal vicar for the proclamation of the faith and catechesis in the diocese of Chur. In addition, he was a member of the Bishops' Council and was active as resident canon and provost of the Chur cathedral chapter, which is responsible for electing the Chur bishop. Casetti was spokesman for the Bishop of Chur for over 22 years; In 2010 he handed over the office to Giuseppe Gracia. Casetti was also a diocesan judge and an elected member of the priestly council of the Archdiocese of Vaduz until his death. Since 2014, Casetti has been given full decision-making authority for the St. Luzi Seminary in Chur, without being rainy . His "family catechism" was converted to the Czech one. Slovenian, Croatian and the Hindu language translated.

Casetti was involved in numerous social projects in the Holy Land . In 1995 he was appointed Knight of the Papal Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher by Cardinal Grand Master Carlo Furno and invested by the Bishop of Lugano, Eugenio Corecco , Grand Prior of the Swiss Lieutenancy .
