Eugenio Corecco

Eugenio Corecco (born October 3, 1931 in Airolo ; † March 1, 1995 in Lugano ) was a Swiss clergyman, theologian, publicist and Roman Catholic bishop of Lugano .

Life

On October 2, 1955 he received in Bodio the priesthood . He studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome , in Munich , where he received his doctorate in canon law in 1962 , and in Freiburg im Üechtland . In 1969 he became professor of canon law in Freiburg . He was dean of the theological faculty. On June 5, 1986, he was the Pope as Bishop of Lugano and appointed on 29 June 1986 gave him the Bishop of Sion Henri Schwery the episcopal ordination ; Co- consecrators were Ernesto Togni , bishop emeritus of Lugano and Pierre Mamie , bishop of Lausanne, Geneva and Friborg .

On April 27, 1992 he founded the Istituto Accademico di Teologia of Lugano, which was elevated to theological faculty by the Vatican on November 20, 1993 .

After a long illness, he died in the episcopal palace and was buried in the crypt of the Sacro Cuore basilica in Lugano Molino Nuovo .
