Aloysius Winter

Aloysius Winter (born October 29, 1931 in Besch / Mosel , Saarland ; † March 26, 2011 there ) was a German Roman Catholic theologian .

Life

Winter was born the third of six children, attended school in Hanover and passed the Abitur in 1950. He then studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Philosophical-Theological University Trier in Trier and finished his studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome . On October 10, 1956, he was ordained a priest for the diocese of Hildesheim by Franz Cardinal König in Sant'Ignazio di Loyola in Campo Marzio in Rome . In 1960 he was awarded the title of Dr. theol. PhD . He worked as a chaplain in Hanover as well as assistant at the Episcopal Seminary in Fulda . In Fulda he taught the subjects of fundamental theology , New Testament exegesis and Bible theology and in the Marburg Catholic-Theological Seminar the subjects of fundamental theology and philosophy of religion . Winter was pastor for the Italian parishes in Kassel , Hanau and Fulda .

After studying at the Universities of Münster and Mainz he received in 1975 a call to ordinary professor of philosophy of religion , fundamental theology and philosophical and theological propaedeutic at the Theological Faculty of Fulda . From 1994 until his retirement in 2000, Aloysius Winter was Rector of this Philosophical-Theological College .

On the night of June 25, 2010, Winter was attacked, robbed and critically injured in his house in Fulda. Until his death he was in need of care. The alleged perpetrator was caught.

Act

Aloysius Winter's main research focus was Immanuel Kant , especially the theological background of his philosophy. He was committed to the International Theological Summer Academy Aigen and the Theological Summer Academy Augsburg .

In 1986 he was appointed chaplain to His Holiness ( Monsignor ) by Pope John Paul II and in 1999 he was made an honorary papal prelate . In 1996 he received the gold medal from the International Buddhist University (Shitennoji University) in Osaka, Japan .

Since 2000 he has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Forum of German Catholics . He was a clerical adviser to the Catholic German Women's Association (KDFB) in the diocese of Fulda and to the Fulda working group of Marian associations. In recent years he has been the episcopal commissioner for the celebration of Holy Mass in the extraordinary rite. Winter was subsidiar at the Fulda Cathedral .
