Alois Riehl (* 6. October 1950 in Ginseldorf ) is a German CDU - politician and was from 1998 to 2003 Mayor of Fulda and 2003-2009 Minister of Economy, Transport and Regional Development of the State of Hesse .

Life and work

After graduating from the collegiate school St. Johann in Amöneburg in 1969 and completing military service, Alois Rhiel studied economics at the Philipps University of Marburg from 1970 and graduated in 1976 with a degree in economics after twelve semesters. He then worked as a research assistant at the University of Marburg. From 1979 to 1982 he was a scientific consultant in the treasury of the city of Frankfurt am Main and personal assistant to the city treasurer. He received his doctorate in 1981. rer. pole. in the Department of Economics at the University of Marburg. The title of his dissertation is: "Local economy and economic order".

In 1983 and 1984 he worked as sales manager for the Marburg wallpaper factory (500 employees). From 1991 to 1998 he was deputy chairman of the board of the Tegut food group in Fulda .

Since May 2009 Rhiel has been managing director of OFB Projektentwicklung, a subsidiary of Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen (Helaba).

Alois Rhiel is Roman Catholic , married and has two children.

Public offices

From 1984 to 1989, Riehl mayor in Fulda and 1989-1991 President of the Government in casting . In 1998 he ran for direct election for the office of Mayor of Fulda for the CDU and was elected with 64.97% of the vote. He held the office until 2003. During his time as Mayor of Fulda, one of his major projects was the privatization of the municipal parking garages and their sale to the Dutch group Q-Park.

From 2003 Rhiel was Minister for Economy, Transport and State Development in the Hessian state government . After the state elections in Hesse in 2009 and the new edition of the black-yellow coalition under Roland Koch, Rhiel left the Hessian state government.

Positions

As minister, Rhiel advocated consistent market regulation to maintain competition , particularly in the energy and telecommunications industries . For this reason he spoke z. B. for a separation of network and operation in an IPO of the Deutsche Bahn AG , as well as for the abolition of the postal monopoly . He is one of the proponents of an expansion of the Frankfurt airport as well as the ICE - new line Rhein / Main – Rhein / Neckar from Frankfurt am Main to Mannheim .

Rhiel has been a member of the state board of the CDU Hessen since 1992 . He has been deputy chairman of the CDU federal technical committee "Economic, Budget and Financial Policy" since it was founded in May 2008.

From 2006 to 2008 Rhiel was chairman of the railway infrastructure advisory board at the Federal Network Agency . He was a member of the Presidium of the Hessian Association of Cities and a member of various committees of the German Association of Cities .

Rhiel is a member of the executive committee of the German Horticultural Society . In October 2007 he resigned from the position of patron for the 7th Congress Joy in Faith of the Forum of German Catholics because of the invitation from Eva Herman as a guest speaker .
