Franz Rank

Franz Rang (born July 18, 1831 in Neuhof (near Fulda) , † October 7, 1893 in Kassel ) was Lord Mayor of Fulda and member of the Reichstag of the North German Confederation .

Life

Franz Rang was the son of the board of directors of the renewed government of the province of Fulda Justus Rang . From 1850 to 1853 he studied law at the Philipps University of Marburg and the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn . He became active in the Corps Teutonia Marburg (1850) and in the Corps Hansea Bonn (1851). At Teutonia he distinguished himself three times as a senior. In 1854 he came to the High Court in Fulda as a court clerk . In 1862 he was elected and confirmed mayor of the city of Fulda for life. In 1890 he was a co-founder of the Hessian City Council and in 1892 the Sparkasse Association, a member of the Kassel Municipal Council and the Hessen-Nassau Provincial Council . From 1867 to 1871 he was a member of the Reichstag of the North German Confederation and the Customs Parliament for the constituency of Kassel 7 ( Fulda , Schlüchtern , Gersfeld ) and the Free Association . Rank was married twice: his first marriage to Anna Waxmann (1836–1865) from Würzburg resulted in a son and two daughters. The second marriage to Pauline Schantz (1844–1924) from Rotenburg an der Fulda had three sons and two daughters.

Honors

The Rangstraßen in Fulda and Neuhof were named after him. In 1979 the city of Fulda put a memorial plaque with an inscription on his grave.
