Anton Thomas

Anton Thomas (born February 2, 1778 in Haselstein , † May 4, 1837 in Fulda ) was mayor and then director of the city council of Fulda.

Life

Thomas was born as the son of a wealthy farmer and innkeeper in Haselstein (today the municipality of Nüsttal ). His parents let him go to high school because of his intelligence and also because he was physically weak. He studied among other things in Giessen with Karl Ludwig Wilhelm von Grolman . From 1800 he taught at the University of Fulda as a professor for natural law and German private law. From 1805 he was city judge in Fulda and was in the same year by William of Orangeappointed mayor. From 1816 he held the title of director of the city council and councilor. He renounced this in 1821 in order to become a Hessian district judge at the Fulda district court. Two years before his death, he retired as a privy councilor due to health problems .

He was married to Sabina Franziska Weikard (1792–1863), a daughter of the magistrate Georg Ignaz Weikard .
