history

The Marburger wallpaper factory is a family business in the fifth generation. Johann Bertram Schaefer opened a specialist shop for furniture and interior design in Marburg in 1845 and began to manufacture wallpaper in 1879. The company was based in Marburg until the Second World War . The company has been based in Kirchhain since the 1950s . The wallpapers and wall coverings are exclusively produced there.

Today (2017) the company offers over 4,000 different wallpapers and ships around 60,000 rolls daily. The focus of the collections is in the middle to upper price segment.

The company is also known for technical wall coverings that shield low-frequency electromagnetic radiation . This concept was further developed into tap-proof wallpaper.

In 2016 wallcoverings were exported to over 90 countries in Marburg. Besides the countries of the European Community, the USA , Russia and China are the most important export countries .

At the turn of the millennium, the first wallpaper collection was presented by the textile designer Ulf Moritz on the initiative of managing director and mechanical engineer Ullrich Eitel. This was followed by other artist editions by Luigi Colani (wallpapers with three-dimensional decorative elements 2007, Tsavo - theme "Elephant" 2010, Visions - theme "Water", "Tree bark" 2012, Legend 2017), Werner Berges , Karim Rashid , Zaha Hadid ( Art Borders , 2010; Hommage , 2015) and Harald Glööckler .

Environmental protection and sustainability

All Marburg wallpapers have been produced in accordance with RAL-GZ-479 since 1991. The RAL criteria were developed under the leadership of the Marburger Tapetenfabrik at the Association of the German Wallpaper Industry .

Thermal post-combustion ensures clean, almost residue-free exhaust gases. The Marburg wallpaper factory has been using waste heat for heating (circular economy) since 1998. External specialist companies are used to dispose of the waste.

The Marburg wallpaper factory is the only wallpaper manufacturer since 2000, according to the Quality Management Snorm DIN EN ISO 9001 certified . In annual external mandatory audits, it is checked whether the company can keep the certification. DIN EN ISO 9001 defines, among other things, ecological goals in the quality strategy, in product development, for environmental protection in production technology and for environmentally friendly waste recycling.
