Alfred Schmidt (born September 4, 1938 in Korbach ) is a German entrepreneur and politician ( FDP ).

Life and work

After attending primary school, Schmidt first completed an apprenticeship as a painter. In 1960 he passed the exam to become a master painter and then attended the higher technical school in Stuttgart . Initially managing director, he founded a painting company in Kassel in 1965 .

Political party

Schmidt joined the FDP in 1962 , was a member of the Young Democrats from 1964 to 1973 and, since 1968, their district chairman in Northern Hesse . From 1971 to 1981 he was a member of the state executive committee of the FDP Hessen and in 1979 was elected chairman of the FDP district of North Hesse.

MP

From 1972 to 1974 Schmidt was a councilor in the city ​​administration of Kassel . He was a member of the Hessian state parliament from 1974 to 1982, from 1983 to 1987 and from 1991 to 1995. In parliament he was, among other things, media policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group and at times also vice president of the state parliament.

Public offices

Schmidt held office from April 24, 1987 to April 5, 1991 as the Hessian State Minister for Economics and Technology in the state government led by Prime Minister Walter Wallmann .

Honors

In 2008 Schmidt was honored with the Wilhelm Leuschner Medal , the highest award in the State of Hesse.
