Jörg Andrees Elten (also Swami Satyananda ; born March 30, 1927 in Dresden ; † January 29, 2017 in Stellshagen ) was a German journalist and writer .

Life

Elten was a student at the National Political Education Institute (Napola) in Naumburg / Saale and from March to May 1945 still a war participant as a tank grenadier in a unit of the Waffen SS . He later worked for six years as a Middle East and Africa correspondent for the Süddeutsche Zeitung and then as a reporter for Stern magazine .

For the time he reported from Israel and Russia in the 1960s.

In 1977 Elten traveled to India for an interview with then Prime Minister Morarji Desai , where he also visited Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh in Poona and was so impressed by him that he became a sannyasin himself . Elten's article about his experiences in Poona, which appeared shortly afterwards, contributed significantly to the fact that Bhagwan and his Ashram received increasing attention in the West, especially in Germany.

In 1979 Elten's diary about his life in the ashram was published, completely relaxed in the here and now! , which became a bestseller and motivated thousands of young Germans to travel to India to meet Bhagwan themselves. 1990 was followed by a second book in which Elten about the end of Rajneeshpuram - municipality in Antelope (Oregon) the mid-1980s and his own experiences when you restart a freelance writer in California's Santa Barbara reported. In his third book, Karma and Career , which is also autobiographical , Elten dealt primarily with two central issues of our time: fear and trust.

After eight years in the USA, Elten returned to Germany in the late 1990s and has lived in Stellshagen in West Mecklenburg since 1998 , where he and his partner Martina Kaltenbach headed the Institute for Creativity and Meditation , where he offered seminars and workshops, but also continued to regularly write articles for magazines such as the Klartext column of the German edition of the Osho Times . Elten left three daughters: Susanne, Petra and Bettina.
