Neo-sannyas

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Neo-Sannyas , also known as the Bhagwan Movement , is a non-ascetic form of Sannyas (a way of life determined by the spiritual search ) founded in 1970 by Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (from 1989: Osho ), whereby the prefix Neo- in German is used in the The rule is no longer applicable and members of the neo-sannyas movement are therefore mostly simply referred to as sannyasins in Germany.

Relation to and difference to traditional sannyas

The Neo Sannyas movement was founded on September 28, 1970 when Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh initiated his first disciples and gave them a new name. B. Ma Dhyan Shama, men e.g. B. Swami Satyananda.

Until September 1985, neo-sannyasins all wore orange or red dresses and a mala (necklace) with 108 wooden balls and the picture of their guru - an appearance that until then had been the exclusive attribute of traditional Indian sannyasins . With the ensuing drapery of his neo-sannyasins, Osho wanted to establish a conscious alternative to the renouncement-shaped search ethic of the past. Accordingly, neo-sannyasins today often pursue a lifestyle that is outwardly hardly different from that of their social environment. The only defined elements remained awareness and meditation.

There is no longer an official initiation to become a Neo-Sannyasin; rather, everyone who is interested initiates himself.
