The community-free area of the Pupplinger Au is an alluvial forest east of Wolfratshausen ( Upper Bavaria ). It lies to the left and right of the Isar between Ascholding and about 500 m south of the Loisach estuary. The area is about 6 kilometers long and up to a kilometer wide; the area is about 3.72 km². It was named after the village of Puppling in the former municipality of Ergertshausen, which today belongs to the municipality of Egling . The Pupplinger Au area is designated as a landscape and nature reserve, it is part of the Isarauen nature reserve between Schäftlarn and Bad Tölz . The alluvial forest is a natural forest reserve . It is composed primarily of pine , white alder , spruce and willow and covers an area of 55 ha .
flora
Through erosion and sedimentation , the Isar repeatedly creates new river beds. These still open gravel areas are first colonized by pioneer plants , which can cope with the difficult conditions there; these include the alpine toadflax and the dwarf bellflower . The German tamarisk then settle on gravelly surfaces and the lavender willow bushes on sandy subsoil . If the area remains stable, a snow heather and pine forest can gradually develop with juniper , silver arum , grass lilies and orchids such as the swamp and brown stendel arum , the hybrid of which bears the botanical name Epipactis × pupplingensis .
Use as a recreational area
The Pupplinger Au is not only a popular local recreation area for the residents of Wolfratshausen and the surrounding communities, but also for Munich residents . A paved path enables cyclists and inline skaters to ride over 7 km through a landscape that is mainly characterized by forest. At the northern and southern ends of the Au, two inns with beer gardens offer an opportunity to rest, especially in summer. The bathing facilities on the Isar are not officially designated as nudist areas, but they are often used as such.
So-called rangers ensure that the balance between the needs of a local recreation area and a nature reserve is maintained. This includes compliance with an absolute ban on fire and smoking during the summer months. The pebble islands marked as a bird sanctuary serve rare birds such as the common tern as a breeding area and enjoy special protection in the spring and summer months.
