Vorderriß , originally just called Riß , is the southernmost district of the municipality of Lenggries in the upper Isarwinkel in the Upper Bavarian district of Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen in Germany , and, like Fall, lies south of the Isar . Hinterriß is located in Tyrol .

The hamlet is located at the mouth of the Rißbach in the Isar at 808  m above sea level. NHN and consists of nine houses, including an inn, a state forest ranger, a forest ranger of the Grand Duke of Luxembourg and a former customs office .

At the time of the census on May 25, 1987, the main residence population was 30, at that time in 10 buildings with living space and 14 apartments.

The inlet structure of the Rißbach overpass is four kilometers to the south . Since 1949, a large part of the Rissbach has been diverted into the Walchensee from there in order to supply additional water for the Walchensee power station. There is also a managed alpine hut (Oswaldhütte, 844  m above sea level ), from which an ascent to Schafreuter ( 2102  m above sea level ) is possible.

• King Ludwig II of Bavaria often stayed in Vorderriß and in 1866 had a chapel expanded in honor of St. Mary .
• Prince Regent Luitpold of Bavaria came to Vorderriß every year to hunt chamois .
• The Bavarian writer Ludwig Thoma , son of the chief forester Max Thoma, spent the first six years of his life there (1867–1873).

Vorderriß is the beginning or the end point of the toll road between Wallgau and Vorderriß, at the same time the federal road 307 begins there as a section of the German Alpine Road in the direction of Fall / Lenggries .

In addition, the road that runs south branches off into the Riss valley . After five kilometers you reach the Bavarian-Austrian border. This road is the only access to the northern parts of the communities of Vomp in the Tyrolean Inn Valley and Eben am Achensee with the Hinterriß settlement and the Almdorf Eng .

In summer, the valley is connected twice a day (Monday to Friday) or three times on the weekend by a regular bus ( RVO line 9569, known as the “Bergsteigerbus”) with Lenggries and Hinterriß / Eng .
