The Suchsdorf – Wik railway is a railway line in Schleswig-Holstein . It was created as the Kleinbahn Suchsdorf – Wik in the First World War because there were no wagons due to the war .

history

The line to the Kiel-Wik gasworks was opened on June 4, 1918 as a private siding. The city of Kiel took over the route on August 27, 1918, and since November 9, 1923 the route has been used by public transport. Since the beginning, the railway line has only been used for freight traffic.

The transport services were always very fluctuating. In 1950, 227,000 t were transported, in 1960 it was only 36,401 t, in 1970 again 105,419 t. In 1989 it was 162,120 t. Due to the relocation of the main customer, traffic decreased rapidly from 1996 onwards. Traffic has been pretty idle since the beginning of the 21st century, there is no longer any scheduled traffic. However, it still plays a role for test voyages by Voith, which was based at the Nordhafen in 2006. All trips on the route are carried out as shunting trips .

Seehafen Kiel GmbH & Co., which emerged from the port and transport companies of the state capital Kiel, has been operating this railway line since 1996. Since 2007 the railway has belonged to the Deutsche Werke Kiel . In 2010 it was transferred to northrail Technical Service . In 2017, de Plasse consulting GmbH & Co. KG became the owner . called, which is also responsible for tracks 3 and 4 in Suchsdorf train station.

route

The route begins at Suchsdorf station on the Kiel – Flensburg line . It leads in a right-hand bend through a steeply sloping forest down to Kiel-Wik, directly on the Kiel Canal . The line continues in the same direction to Scheerhafen, in the opposite direction the track serves the north port with several industrial connections such as that of the Voith company . The stevedore track on the quay and the connection to the Voith company can only be reached through gates. Several museum vehicles were parked on the Voith premises for several years.

The depot and the locomotive management of the seaport of Kiel were located in the Wik.

2018 renewed oil loading station at the end of Schleusenstrasse

From the level crossing to the canal ferry, the section in the direction of Scheerhafen is closed, the rail connection to Tirpitzhafen (today Raytheon- Anschütz) has been built over or demolished in many places. The former Scheerhafen plant is also no longer accessible. A mobile home parking space and a kiosk with a parking lot were built on the tracks.
