The Walter plant in Kiel is a 1935 engineering firm Hellmuth Walter founded Kieler family. The Walterwerk is known for the Walter drive produced between 1935 and 1945 , a thermodynamic drive for submarines and aircraft . Today the company as Walterwerk GmbH und Co. KG produces various systems for the production of wafers after a successful armament conversion .

history

The Walterwerk was founded in 1935 as the Hellmuth Walter engineering office by Hellmuth Walter in Kiel. Initially, the thermodynamic drives for submarines and airplanes invented by Walter were manufactured there, initially with one employee, and in 1936 with 300 employees. In 1939/1940 the company moved to new production facilities on Tannenberg in the immediate vicinity of the Kiel Canal . In 1945 the plants employed 5,000 people, including slave labor .

After the Second World War , the plant was placed under British control and Hellmuth Walter and some of his employees were brought to England in October 1946 to continue working on the Walter drive. In 1949 he returned to Germany and the plant was returned to his management. But a few months later he moved to the USA . There he worked at the Worthington Corporation in Harrison (New Jersey) .

From 1951, after a successful conversion, the first press waffle machine was built on the site; in 1958 the first JUPITER sweet waffle maker was delivered. In 1956 Hellmuth Walter founded Hellmuth Walter GmbH in Kiel , in which in 1967 a civil submarine with Walter propulsion called " STINT " was designed.

Today Walter offers a total of 50 different systems for the production of sweet waffles in various sizes, wafer cups, Monaka waffles or cheese waffles. The company premises cover 2.5 hectares.

Investments

The systems can be divided into three categories: JUPITER systems, MARS systems and dough mixing systems.

JUPITER plants

JUPITER is the first series of systems manufactured by Walter that has been in production since the 1960s. They are suitable for the production of sweet waffles, wafer rolls, wafer cups, wafers or snack waffles. The three different series of JUPITER systems (JUPITER X, JUPITER XP and JUPITER IC) are characterized by different end products and production output.

MARS systems

Furthermore, Walter offers the possibility of producing Monaka wafers with the MARS-IC systems. These systems are in demand in Asia .

Dough mixing plants

As a supplement to the wafer systems, Walter also designs dough mixing systems in several variants and automatic levels.
