Pönitz is a western part of the municipality of Scharbeutz in the Schleswig-Holstein district of Ostholstein . It is about 5 km from the Baltic Sea. The settlement of Steenrade is located at the western end of the village , and to the east Pönitz am See borders between the Kleiner Pönitzer See and the Großer Pönitzer See . The Schwartau flows to the west . Pönitz gave the spa area Pönitzer Seenplatte in Holstein Switzerland its name.

history

In 1221 Pönitz was first mentioned in a document as the Slavic settlement Penze , which means something like "foaming water". This means the farming village that today bears the name Pönitz am See . Today's Pönitz was called Gleschendorf station until 1934 . In the 1970s, the districts of Steenrade (consisting of Obersteenrade , Untersteenrade and the Steenrade settlement ) and Pönitz am See came to Pönitz as districts. The population stagnated for years, until after 2000 a new building area was built in the east of the town of Pönitz. On July 12, 2018, 1,568 people lived in Pönitz. This makes Pönitz the third largest district of the community of Scharbeutz after Scharbeutz (beach) and Haffkrug .

Current

The Feldkamp building area has been under development in Pönitz since 2016 . 70 building sites for single and semi-detached houses will be created here. In addition, the community of Scharbeutz is intensifying another new development area in the west of Pönitz. A further 80 properties are to be sold there north of the Steenrade settlement from 2018.

The increasing number of students at the Pönitz Community School made it necessary to build a new bus station. A total of 6 stopping areas were created, 4 of them as so-called sawtooth parking spaces, so that every bus can leave without hindrance or waiting times by the other arriving and departing buses.

The expansion of the existing town center and the resulting growth in the population prompted the planning of a local supply center on November 3, 2015. The retail concept with retail inventory analysis created by the communities of Scharbeutz and Timmendorfer Strand has shown that in the districts of the community of Scharbeutz z. Sometimes there are no qualified local supply structures. According to the analysis, this applies in particular to the Pönitz district. The village of Pönitz takes on an important supply function due to the infrastructural connection as a school and supply location. The building committee of the municipal council therefore laid down the construction of an apartment building and a semi-detached house in the development plan in addition to a 1000 m² shopping center with parking spaces.

Geography and traffic

The place is on the B 432 , the old Chaussee Altona – Hamburg – Neustadt from 1845 and has a train station on the Kiel – Lübeck route between Bad Schwartau and Eutin . The Pönitz – Ahrensbök railway branched off there until 1988 .

The nearest motorway junction is Exit 16 Scharbeutz, Ponitz, Bad Segeberg on the A1 .

Several bus lines run through Pönitz, which enable students to travel to and from school, especially during school hours. The bus routes are operated by the DB subsidiary Autokraft . The following six lines exist for the 12/2016 timetable (in some cases only exit is possible):

  • 5812: Gronenberg - Pönitz
  • 5813: Haffkrug - Scharbeutz - Pönitz
  • 5814: Gronenberg - Timmendorfer Strand
  • 5951: Lübeck - Pansdorf - Timmendorfer Strand - Haffkrug
  • 5955: Luschendorf - Pansdorf
  • 5970: Eutin / Neustadt / Sarau - Ratekau

Facilities

Community school Pönitz

Pönitz has the only community school with elementary school in the community of Scharbeutz. It was founded in 1899. Around 650 pupils were taught in the 2015/16 school year. The social and cultural committee of the community approved the establishment of an upper secondary level at the Pönitz elementary and community school for the 2019/20 school year, subject to approval of the budgetary and building law implications. This will enable schoolchildren to acquire the general higher education entrance qualification in the future. Thanks to the infrastructural connection to the Kiel – Lübeck railway line, the schools in Eutin and Bad Schwartau with several high schools are easy to reach.

The Rappelkiste eV kindergarten as well as the day care Zwergenstübchen are also located in the district.

In Pönitz is the museum for regional history of the community Scharbeutz of the association for regional history of the community Scharbeutz und Umgebung eV with museum workshop and historical library. In January 2015 the museum was included in the red list of culture of the German Cultural Council in the pre-warning list and thus classified in category 3.

Sports

The sports club in the municipality of Scharbeutz with the largest number of members is the Pönitz sports association. The association was founded in 1912 and, according to its own information, has 918 members (status: 12/2016). It is divided into 10 sections. These include badminton, soccer, karate, line dance, athletics, table tennis, gymnastics / aerobics, oriental dance, volleyball and dancing.
