Rauno Korpi

Rauno "Rane" Korpi (born June 25, 1951 in Tampere ) is a Finnish ice hockey coach . His daughter Kiira is a professional figure skater .

Career

Rauno Korpi began his career as a professional ice hockey coach at Tappara Tampere , which he supervised from 1979 to 1982 in the SM-liiga . During this time he was runner-up in 1981 and won the championship with his team in 1982. For winning the championship, he received the Kalevi Numminen trophy for the first time as the best coach of the season. Korpi was two more times coach at Tappara, which he led in his second term between 1985 and 1991 to a title hat-trick between 1986 and 1988. He was also third in 1990 with Tappara. Due to his success with Tampere Korpi received twice in a row - in 1986 and 1987 - the Kalevi-Numminen trophy as the best coach in the SM-liiga, which he had won in 1982. Most recently, Korpi was Tappara's coach in the 1997/98 season .

In the 1992/93 season Korpi worked at TuTo Turku before he was active as a coach abroad for the first time. From 1993 to 1995 he coached the EC KAC in the Austrian ice hockey league . Korpi worked a second time abroad in the 1999/2000 season when he coached EV Zug from the Swiss National League A.

In addition to his work in the league, Korpi was also responsible for numerous Finnish national teams. In 1980 he led the U20 juniors to the silver medal at the Junior World Championship . He also won bronze medals with the women's national team at the 1997 World Cup and the 1998 Winter Olympics .
