Roger Johansson (born April 17, 1967 in Ljungby ) is a former Swedish ice hockey player who played for the Calgary Flames and Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League from 1983 to 2001 .
Career
Roger Johansson began his career as a hockey player in his hometown with IF Troja-Ljungby , for whom he was active in the second-rate Division 1 from 1983 to 1986 . During this period, the defender was selected in the fourth round of the 1985 NHL Entry Draft as the 80th overall player by the Calgary Flames . First, however, he played from 1986 to 1989 for three years for Färjestad BK in the Elitserien , with whom he was Swedish champions for the first time in the 1987/88 season . In the summer of 1989, the Flames called the left-handed shooter to North America , where he made his debut for the Canadians in the National Hockey League in the 1989/90 season . In his rookie year , he made five assists in 35 games.
In the following season Johansson increased to 17 scorer points, including four goals, in 38 games, but then left Calgary to play for Leksands IF in his Swedish homeland. For the 1992/93 season, the Swede was called up again in the squad of the Calgary Flames, for which he scored four goals in 77 games in his only full NHL season and gave 16 templates. He then signed again in Leksand, where he spent the following year and a half before he was given in January 1995 by the Calgary Flames, who still held the transfer rights to him, to their league rivals Chicago Blackhawks . For this he scored one goal in eleven games by the end of the season.
In the summer of 1995 Johansson was obliged by his ex-club Färjestad BK, for whom he was on the ice until his career in 2001 in the Elitserien.
International
For Sweden Johansson took part in the U20 World Junior Championships in 1986 and 1987 , as well as the World Championships in 1994 , 1996 and 1997 . He was also part of Sweden's squad for the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer and the 1996 World Cup of Hockey .
