The OV-series ( Engl . OV line ) indicates a successful Hockey -Sturmreihe the San Jose Sharks , a team from the National Hockey League in the seasons 1993/94 and 1994/95 . It consisted of the players Igor Larionow , Sergei Makarow and Johan Garpenlöv . The designation OV is based on the official NHL name spelling: Igor Larion ov , Sergei Makar ov and Johan Garpenl ov . The storm series was the first with well-known star players in the history of the San Jose Sharks. With Larionow and Makarow there are two players from the famous KLM series .

Emergence

As the first of the three players, Garpenlöv found his way to the San Jose Sharks. He was signed in a swap on March 12, 1992 for Bob McGill and an eighth round draft pick in the 1992 NHL Entry Draft by the Detroit Red Wings .

As the next piece of the puzzle, the Northern Californians were able to secure the rights to Larionow during the NHL Waiver Draft in October 1992. Larionow initially refused to play for the Sharks, as he had previously had major problems with the Vancouver Canucks to get used to the North American ice hockey style.

It was only when his storm colleague from the famous Soviet KLM series, Sergei Makarow, was signed by the Hartford Whalers in August 1993 that Larionov decided to try his luck on North American soil again, and so he signed a new NHL contract after more than a year.

Act

The storm series started together for the first time in the NHL during the 1993/94 season . They led the San Jose Sharks into the playoffs for the first time in franchise history and helped the team improve their season record by 58 points compared to last year. Garpenlöv scored 53 points (18 goals, 35 assists), Larionow 56 points (18 goals, 38 assists) and Makarow 68 points (30 goals, 38 assists) in the season. In the playoffs, Larionow in particular returned to his old best form and was able to achieve 18 points in 14 games. The Sharks defeated the highly favored Detroit Red Wings in seven games in the first round of playoffs and in the second round they faced the Toronto Maple Leafs . After five games, San Jose led the series 3–2. The sixth game developed into a drama as it was 2-2 after sixty minutes and the game went into overtime. Johan Garpenlöv hit the Maple Leafs' crossbar in overtime and narrowly missed shooting the Sharks into the next round. Shortly afterwards, however, the Maple Leafs scored the winning goal. In the seventh game, Toronto triumphed again and San Jose was eliminated.

Also in the 1994/95 season shortened by the lockout , the three played together with the Sharks. After Garpenlöv was sold to the Florida Panthers in March 1995, the storm line disintegrated. After the season, Makarov also left the team and Larionov said goodbye in October 1995.
