The Baltimore Blades were an ice hockey team from Baltimore , Maryland that was active in the North American World Hockey Association (WHA) from January to May 1975 . After the Michigan Stags were dissolved , the Blades took over the players and ended the season for the defunct team.
history
Shortly before the founding of the Baltimore Blades, the AHL team of the Baltimore Clippers was disbanded due to insufficient audience interest . The WHA was looking at short notice for a location for a successor team to the bankrupt Michigan Stags that should start the current WHA season. The venue was the 11,000-seat Baltimore Civic Center .
Under these conditions, one shouldn't be surprised that the Blades, who were not able to convince in terms of sport in Detroit, did not succeed in gaining a large audience. The Blades had to play their first five games away, all of which were lost. They also remained without a win in the first three home games. The away game with the Houston Eros brought the first victory on February 11, 1975, followed by ten defeats in eleven games. Only then do isolated successes come about. They brought the season to an end and tried to sell the team. Promising talks were held with interested parties from Seattle , but when the sale failed, the franchise was dissolved.
