The Jersey Knights was an ice hockey team from Cherry Hill , New Jersey , which was active in 1973 in the North American World Hockey Association (WHA). The team moved from New York to New Jersey during the 1973/74 season . For the 1974/75 season , the franchise moved to the west coast of the United States and played there as the San Diego Mariners .
history
In May 1973 Ralf Brent bought the New York Raiders and renamed them New York Golden Blades . In Jerry DeLise, he brought in a new Managing Director. However, the two soon discovered why the previous owners wanted to give up the team. High rental costs for Madison Square Garden and low attendance figures were also the new owner's undoing, so the WHA dissolved the team and installed a team in New Jersey for the transition period until the next season. There it played under the name Jersey Knights .
The club played in the 4,000-seat Cherry Hill Arena . Even if André Lacroix played a brilliant season with 111 points, the Knights ended the season last in their group. Barry Schwartz bought the team from WHA on January 3, 1974 and moved with the team to California on April 30, 1974. There the team played from the following season as the San Diego Mariners for three more years.
