Petr Kadlec (born January 5 , 1977 in Prague , Czechoslovakia ) is a former Czech ice hockey player who spent most of his career at HC Slavia Prague and won the Czech championship twice with it. Between 2014 and 2018 he played for HC Škoda Plzeň . With a total of 1250 Extraliga games, Kadlec is the record player in the highest Czech ice hockey league.

Career

Kadlec began his career in 1995 with HC Slavia Prague, for which he completed 24 games in the Extraliga in his first season with the seniors . In the following two years he continued to play for Slavia, but was also used in partner teams in the second-rate first division . From 1997 he was a permanent member of the Extraliga squad of Slavia Prague. After he had completed twelve games for his home club in the 1999/2000 season , he moved for the rest of the season to league rivals HC Keramika Plzeň , with whom he reached the playoffs.

In the summer of 2000 he returned to Slavia Prague, where he has been playing ever since. In the 2002/03 season he won the Czech championship with his home club . Because of the performances he was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2003 by the Florida Panthers in the eighth round in 234th place. He also took part in a Panthers tryout camp but failed to make it into the NHL squad. Since he did not want to play for a Panthers farm team , he returned to the Czech Republic. A year later, his contract with the Panthers was dissolved, so that Kadlec never played an NHL game.

At the end of the 2007/08 season he won another championship title with Slavia, in which he had a large share with nine scorer points in the playoffs. In the 2010/11 season he led his team onto the ice as captain .

In the summer of 2014 he moved to HC Škoda Plzeň , for which he was active until 2018, initially as assistant captain and later as team captain. In August 2018, he ended his career at the age of 41 after 23 seasons and 1,250 extraliga games. This makes him the record player in the Extraliga.

International

His first appearances for a Czech selection team had Petr Kadlec at the Junior World Championships in 1997 , where he and his teammates of the U20 selection achieved fourth place. In the following years he was repeatedly used in international matches on the Euro Hockey Tour and in preparatory games, but did not make it into a squad for international championships. It was not until 2003 that he was nominated again for a world championship in which he finished fourth with the Czech national team .
