Ruslan Fedotenko Wiktorowytsch ( Ukrainian Руслан Вікторович Федотенко , Russian Руслан Викторович Федотенко / Ruslan Viktorovich Fedotenko * 18th January 1979 in Kiev , Ukrainian SSR , Soviet Union ) is a former Ukrainian hockey player . The left winger completed 971 games in the National Hockey League , winning the Stanley Cup in 2004 with the Tampa Bay Lightning and 2009 with the Pittsburgh Penguins .
Career
Fedotenko left his hometown club HK Sokol Kiev early on for Finland, where he played for the TPS Turku juniors . He later played for Kiekko Turku in the Finnish second division . In 1997, when he was 18, he moved to North America.
After serving in various youth teams, he signed a professional contract with the Philadelphia Flyers in August 1999 . This put him in the first year in the East Coast Hockey League with the Trenton Titans , but especially in the American Hockey League with the Philadelphia Phantoms . Good performances there helped him to fight for a place in the Flyers squad for the 2000/01 season . After a convincing rookie season , the following season was also successful. A high point of his career was taking part in the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City for his home country.
In the summer of 2002, the Flyers gave it to the Tampa Bay Lightning . Here he became the first Ukrainian Stanley Cup winner in the 2003/04 season . When his team won the decisive game 2-1, he scored both goals.
After two more seasons in Tampa Bay, he signed a contract with the New York Islanders in the summer of 2007 . Here, too, he became a constant in attack. Before the 2008/09 season , he signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins , with which he was able to win the Stanley Cup straight away in his first season . In October 2010 he signed a contract with the New York Rangers . As a free agent , the Ukrainian was given a one-year contract by the Philadelphia Flyers in July 2012.
Due to the NHL lockout, Fedotenko played between September 2012 and January 2013 for HK Donbass Donetsk in the Continental Hockey League , then he returned to the Flyers. In the 2013/14 season he played again for Donbass Donetsk in the KHL, where he ran up as team captain. In September 2014 Fedotenko completed a try-out with the New Jersey Devils , which did not result in a contract.
In January 2015, he was signed by the Iowa Wild until the end of the 2014/15 season, as a result of which this contract was extended for another year. He then announced the end of his active career in October 2016.
