Borys Kolesnikov
Borys Wiktorowytsch Kolesnikow ( Ukrainian Борис Вікторович Колесніков ; Russian Борис Викторович Колесников ; born October 25, 1962 in Mariupol , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Ukrainian entrepreneur and politician. From March 11, 2010 to December 24, 2012 he was Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine in the cabinet of Mykola Azarov .
From the end of March 2014 to 2015, Kolesnikov was chairman of the Party of Regions . Since 2016 he has been chairman of the opposition bloc party together with Jurij Boiko .
Life
Kolesnikow graduated from the University of Donetsk with a degree in economics and held management positions in commercial and industrial companies in the Soviet Union. He has been friends with Rinat Akhmetov since his youth .
From 1991 Kolesnikow held managerial positions in companies in the Ukrainian food industry. At times he was director of the second largest confectionery manufacturer in Ukraine, the Konti Group . Kolesnikov still holds major stakes in several companies in the Ukrainian food industry and is considered one of the richest men in the country.
Kolesnikov is married and has a son and a daughter. He is the vice-president of the Shakhtar Donetsk football club and the owner of HK Donbass Donetsk and the Druzhba Sports Palace .
politics
Kolesnikov began his political activities in 1999. After he was initially Deputy Governor of Donetsk Oblast , he was elected chairman of the regional parliament in 2001 and remained in this office until 2006. From 2003 he was also chairman of the party of the regions in Donetsk Oblast. At that time he was already considered one of the closest confidants of Viktor Yanukovych, whom he supported in the 2004 presidential elections .
After Viktor Yushchenko was elected President of Ukraine in April 2005, Kolesnikov was accused of extortion in connection with sales of shares in a Donetsk department store and was temporarily detained. He was also accused of having called for a secession of southern Ukraine during the election campaign if Yushchenko were elected. The charges against Kolesnikov were dropped in August 2005.
In the 2006 and 2007 parliamentary elections , he was elected to the Verkhovna Rada for the Party of Regions . Kolesnikov is a member of this party's presidium.
After Yanukovych's election victory in the 2010 presidential elections , Kolesnikov was initially considered a candidate for the office of prime minister, but was then appointed deputy prime minister on March 11, 2010 and responsible for organizing the 2012 European football championship . Since December 2010 he has also held the office of Minister for Infrastructure.
After President Viktor Yanukovych was ousted by the Euromaidan , Kolesnikov was elected chairman of the Party of Regions on March 29, 2014. In 2015 he joined the opposition bloc. In 2016 he was appointed co-chair of the party.
