Jim McKenzie (born November 3, 1969 in Gull Lake , Saskatchewan ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player who worked for the Hartford Whalers , Dallas Stars , Pittsburgh Penguins , Winnipeg Jets , Phoenix Coyotes and Mighty Ducks from 1987 to 2004 of Anaheim , Washington Capitals , New Jersey Devils and Nashville Predators in the National Hockey League .
Career
Jim McKenzie began his career as an ice hockey player in the Canadian top junior division Western Hockey League , in which he was active from 1987 to 1989 for the Moose Jaw Warriors and Victoria Cougars . During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1989 in the fourth round as a total of 73rd player by the Hartford Whalers , for whom he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 1989/90 season , where he remained pointless in five games . In the following season, the attacker won the Calder Cup with Hartford's farm team from the American Hockey League , the Springfield Indians . After he was regularly used as a regular in the NHL squad of the Whalers in the following years, the left-shot was initially given to the Florida Panthers on December 16, 1993 in exchange for the Ukrainian Oleksandr Hodynjuk , before they transferred him to the Dallas Stars on the same day transferred further. He finally ended the 1993/94 season with the Pittsburgh Penguins , who signed in exchange for Mike Needham shortly before the end of the trade deadline .
In the 1994/95 season, McKenzie also played for the Pittsburgh Penguins. He then spent a year with the Winnipeg Jets . When these were relocated in 1996, he stayed in the franchise and signed with their successor team, Phoenix Coyotes , for which he played in the NHL until 1998. In the following two years the winger was active for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim and the Washington Capitals , before he received a contract as a free agent with the New Jersey Devils on July 3, 2000 , with whom he was the first in the 2002/03 season and won the prestigious Stanley Cup only time . After he was on the ice the following season for the Nashville Predators , he retired from his career.
