Player career

The 1.91 m tall center began his career with the Moose Jaw Warriors in the Canadian Junior Western Hockey League before he was selected in the 2000 NHL Entry Draft as 26th in the first round by the Capitals.

In the 2001/02 season , the left-handed shooter came for the first time in the NHL, he was also on the ice for the Capitals farm team Portland Pirates in the American Hockey League . In the following season he was part of the regular team in Washington.

In 2004 Sutherby was nominated for the NHL YoungStars Game , after scoring two goals and an assist for the Eastern Conference team there , he was even named Most Valuable Player . From the 2006/07 season , the Canadian was deputy team captain of the Washington Capitals. Shortly after the start of the 2007/08 season , he moved to the Anaheim Ducks for a second-round draft pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft . Something similar happened in the 2008-09 season when he was given to the Dallas Stars for a junior player and a performance-related draft option . After the end of the contract in summer 2011, the Canadian was available as a free agent , but was not signed by any NHL team until mid-October 2011. A short time later, Sutherby decided for a professional try-out at the San Antonio Rampage from the American Hockey League. After his involvement with the Rampage ended in December 2011, the striker became available again as a free actor.
