Nicholas Baptiste (born August 4, 1995 in Ottawa , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been playing the right winger for the Belleville Senators in the American Hockey League since February 2020 .
Career
Baptiste spent his junior career starting the 2011/12 season with the Sudbury Wolves in the Ontario Hockey League . There he was active until November 2014 and was appointed to the league's Third All-Star Team at the end of the 2013/14 season . He was also selected in the third round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in 69th place by the Buffalo Sabers of the National Hockey League . During his final year at the junior camp, the striker was signed by the Sabers in May 2014. Before moving to the professional field, he switched to the Erie Otters within the OHL in November 2014 , who advanced to the championship contenders through his commitment. The Otters lost to the Oshawa Generals in the final series .
At the beginning of the 2015/16 season , Baptiste was used by the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League , which were in cooperation with the Buffalo Sabers. He finally made his NHL debut for Buffalo shortly after the start of the 2016/17 season . In October 2018, however, the Sabers gave him to the Nashville Predators and received Jack Dougherty in return . In the Predators franchise , the attacker was deployed exclusively in the farm team at the Milwaukee Admirals during the 2018/19 season . In February 2019, it again became part of a transfer deal when it was given to the Toronto Maple Leafs . They used him exclusively with the Marlies in the AHL until the end of the season , before he signed a contract limited to the AHL in August 2019. In February 2020, the Marlies gave him to the Belleville Senators within the league and received Miles Gendron in return .
International
Baptiste represented his country at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in 2012 , he with the team Canada Ontario finished in bronze medal, and the U18 World Cup 2013 in Russia's Sochi . There he won the gold medal with the Canadians. In addition, he contributed eight scorer points in seven tournament games and was the second best point collector of the world championship team behind Connor McDavid .
