Spencer Martin (born June 8, 1995 in Oakville , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey goalkeeper who has been under contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League since July 2019 and for their farm team, the Syracuse Crunch , in the American Hockey League is used.

Career

Spencer Martin played in the 2010/11 season for the Toronto Junior Canadians in the Greater Toronto Midget Major League, in which he conceded an average of 2.27 goals (five shutouts ) in 50 games . In four games in the OHL Cup 2011 he was defeated an average of 3.24 times. At the Canada Games 2011 he played for the Ontario team. Martin was selected 18th in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection by the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors at the end of the season .

In his first 2011/12 OHL season, Martin was only a substitute behind JP Anderson and Brandon Maxwell ; accordingly, he only played 15 games. On average he had to reach 3.98 times behind him (catch rate 88.5%). He was not used in the playoffs. Spencer Martin played for Ontario in the 2012 World U-17 Hockey Challenge ; on average it was defeated 1.95 times (catch quota 93.1%). He was also in the squad for the U18 Junior Ice Hockey World Championship in 2012 , but was not used.

Spencer Martin played 46 games in the 2012/13 season for his previous team, which had been renamed Mississauga Steelheads . In the playoff games against the Belleville Bulls he was used in the first game (result 1: 8) as a replacement for Tyson Teichmann . At the 2013 U18 Junior Ice Hockey World Championship , he was used in two games, in which he caught a total of two goals (catch rate 94.1%). At the end of the season he was drafted in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft in 63rd place by the Colorado Avalanche .

Martin has been a member of the Avalanche organization since the 2015/16 season, regularly switching between the San Antonio Rampage from the American Hockey League (AHL) and the Fort Wayne Komets from the ECHL in his first year . At the beginning of the 2016/17 season, however, the Canadian established himself in the AHL and even made his NHL debut over the course of the season.

In July 2019, Martin joined the Tampa Bay Lightning as a free agent .
