Career

Igor Schestjorkin began his career at HK Spartak Moscow , for whose junior team MHK Spartak Moscow he guarded the goal from 2012 to 2014 in the Molodjoschnaja Chokkeinaja Liga (MHL), after he scored a total of 43 in the second round of the 2012 KHL Junior Draft . Position was selected. In 2013 he reached the MHL playoff final with his team, which was lost with 3: 4 wins against Omskije Jastreby. The following season he made his first appearances on the professional team in the Continental Hockey League (KHL) and won the 2013/14 MHL season with the junior team. He was also elected to the MHL All-Star Team. After his previous club withdrew from the KHL after the season, Schestjorkin was selected in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft 2014 by the New York Rangers in 118th place. However, he did not move to the NHL club on the US east coast, but moved with several teammates to SKA Saint Petersburg , for which he plays in the Wysschaja Hockey League in addition to assignments in the KHL also with its farm team SKA-Neva Saint Petersburg . In 2015 he won the Gagarin Cup , the championship trophy of the KHL, with the team from the northernmost metropolis in the world . In the 2015/16 season he achieved the best catch rate and the lowest average goal conceded in the Wysschaja Hockey League.

In 2017, Schestjorkin won the playoffs for the Gagarin Cup with St. Petersburg again and became Russian champions . After leading the KHL in the 2018/19 season with an average goal against 1.11 and a catch quota of 95.3%, he signed an entry contract with the New York Rangers in May 2019 . As expected, they used him for their farm team in the American Hockey League (AHL), the Hartford Wolf Pack , before he finally made his debut for New York in the National Hockey League (NHL) in January 2020 .

International

Igor Schestjorkin represented his home country in the junior division at the U18 World Cup in 2013 and the U20 World Cup in 2015 . At the 2016 World Cup , he was part of the Russian national team for the first time and won the bronze medal with it, even though he did not play himself. In 2017 , Schestjorkin won the bronze medal again, although he was without a commitment as in the previous year.
