David Kämpf (born January 12, 1995 in Jirkov ) is a Czech ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Chicago Blackhawks in the National Hockey League since May 2017 .

Career

David Kämpf was born in Jirkov and in his youth went through the junior departments of the Piráti Chomutov from neighboring Chomutov . At the beginning of the 2012/13 season he not only played for the U20s of the club in the highest junior league in the Czech Republic, but also made his professional debut in the men's extraliga . At the same time, the attacker ran in some games for SK Kadaň in the 1st division , the second highest division in the country. In the 2013/14 season, the Czech established himself in the Extraliga, but only scored three points in 45 games and was relegated to the first division with the team at the end of the season. Subsequently, however, the team succeeded in direct resurgence before combatants also increased his personal statistics clearly indicate he came up 31 points, reaching the Piráti the playoff semi-finals in the season 2016/17, but where the team at the White Tigers Liberec failed .

After these performances, teams from the National Hockey League (NHL) became aware of Kämpf, so that he signed a two-year contract with the Chicago Blackhawks in May 2017 . They used him for the time being with their farm team , the Rockford IceHogs , in the American Hockey League (AHL) before he made his NHL debut for the Blackhawks in December 2017. In the following season 2018/19 he was only on the ice for Chicago in the NHL.

International

On an international level, Kämpf represented his home country for the first time at the U17 level at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2012 and finished eighth there with the team. He then took part with the Czech U18s at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2012 and the U18 World Cup in 2013 , before joining the U20 national team at the U20 World Championships in 2014 and 2015 , missing the medal ranks in each case. The attacker then made his debut for the Czech national team as part of the Euro Hockey Tour 2016/17.
