Christopher "Chris" Bigras (born February 22, 1995 in Orillia , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League since July 2019 and for their farm team, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms , in the American Hockey League is used.

Career

youth

Chris Bigras was born in Orillia and grew up in Elmvale, about 40 kilometers away . In the youth field he played for the youth teams of the Barrie Colts before he was selected in the Priority Selection 2011 of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in 41st position by the Owen Sound Attack . With the beginning of the 2011/12 season, the defender ran for the team from Owen Sound and also took part with Team Canada Ontario in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2012 , where the team won the bronze medal. After the end of the season, Bigras was also part of the Canadian selection that won the gold medal at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2012 . In the 2012/13 season he increased his personal statistics to 38 scorer points in 68 games and was subsequently nominated for the Canadian U18 national team, which won the gold medal at the subsequent U18 World Cup in 2013 . As a result of the convincing performance, which also resulted in an invitation to the CHL Top Prospects Game , Bigras was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2013 in 32nd position by the Colorado Avalanche and a little later equipped with an entry contract .

As a result, Bigras spent another two years with the Owen Sound Attack in the OHL, where he achieved personal bests with 20 goals and 51 assists in the 2014/15 season and was elected to the league's First All-Star team . He also represented the Canadian U20 national team at the 2014 U20 World Cup , where he finished fourth with the team.

NHL

After the end of the 2014/15 OHL season, the defender moved to the Avalanche farm team for the first time , to the Lake Erie Monsters from the American Hockey League (AHL). With the Monsters he played seven games by the end of the season and came up with four assists. He started the 2015/16 season in the Avalanche squad and made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) before he was active for the San Antonio Rampage , the Avalanche's new farm team from the AHL, from September to January . In January 2016, Bigras returned to the Colorado squad and made a total of 31 NHL appearances.

In February 2018, Colorado gave the Canadian to the New York Rangers for the trade deadline and received Ryan Graves in return . After one and a half years there, he joined the Philadelphia Flyers as a free agent in July 2019, without having played an NHL game for the Rangers .
