Extraliga (Slovakia, chess) 2016/17

The Extraliga 2016/17 was the 25th season of the Slovak Extraliga in chess .

Participating teams and mode

At the start were ŠK Dunajská Streda , ŠK Slovan Commander Bratislava , ŠO TJ Slávia UPJŠ Košice , REINTER Humenné , ŠKŠ Dubnica , Liptovská šachová škola , ŠK Prakovce , ŠK Strelec Devínska Nová Ves , TJ INBEST Dunajov teams, the ŠK Modra of the Extraliga 2015/16 occupied places 2 to 11 (the defending champion ŠO ŠKM Angelus Stará Ľubovňa had withdrawn his team), and ŠK Osuské and Šachový klub Sabinov were promoted from the 1st division. The twelve teams played a simple round-robin tournament on eight boards, first the number of team points (three points for a win, one point for a tie, no point for a defeat), then the number of board points (one point for a Winning game, half a point for a draw game, no point for a losing game). The last two were relegated and replaced by the winners of both seasons of the 1st division.

Events

The competitions took place on October 22 and 23, December 17 and 18, 2016, January 14 and 15, February 18 and 19, and March 24, 25 and 26, 2017.

Season course

For a long time, the ŠK Dunajská Streda , REINTER Humenné and the ŠK Slovan Bratislava fought head-to-head for the title, but by winning against their direct competitors, Dunajská Streda took a decisive lead and secured the title even before the last lap Championship. While the ŠK Strelec Devínska Nová Ves was prematurely relegated, the decision about the second relegated was only made in the last round against the Šachový klub Sabinov .
