Extraliga (Slovakia, chess) 2008/09

The Extraliga 2008/09 was the 17th season of the Slovak Extraliga in chess .

Participating teams and mode

At the start were with ŠO TJ Slávia UPJŠ Košice , ŠK Slovan Bratislava, the first two winners of the 2007/08 Extraliga as well as TJ Slávia CAISSA Čadca , ŠKŠ Dubnica , ŠK Zentiva Hlohovec , ŠK Modra , MŠK KdV Kežmarok , ŠK Dunajská Streda , K CERO NŠK and the ŠK Magic Liptov the teams in places 4 to 11 (the third ŠK HOFFER Komárno had withdrawn his team), in addition, the TJ INBEST Dunajov and the ŠK Trenčín were promoted from the 1st division. The twelve teams played a simple round-robin tournament on eight boards.The number of team points (three points for a win, one point for a draw, no point for a defeat), then the number of board points (one point for a Winning game, half a point for a draw game, no point for a losing game). The last two were relegated and replaced by the winners of both seasons of the 1st league.

Events

The competitions took place on October 25 and 26, November 29 and 30, 2008, January 17 and 18, February 14 and 15, and March 14 and 15, 2009.

Season course

TJ Slávia CAISSA Čadca , ŠK Slovan Bratislava and TJ INBEST Dunajov fought a three-way battle for the title. Bratislava defeated the direct competitors in the last two rounds and became champions. With the ŠK Trenčín , the ŠKŠ Dubnica , the ŠK Magic Liptov and the ŠK Modra , four teams were in danger of relegation before the last round, ultimately Liptov and Modra did not manage to leave the relegation places.
