Extraliga (Slovakia, chess) 2002/03

The Extraliga 2002/03 was the eleventh season of the Slovak Extraliga in chess .

Participating teams and mode

Were at the start with ŠK Slovan Bratislava , ŠK Hydina Kosice , ZK Slovakofarma Hlohovec , ŠK Tatran Prešov , ŠK Bestex Nové Zámky , ŠK Dunaj Bratislava , the juniors of ŠK Slovan Bratislava , ZŤS Spartak Dubnica , ŠK Slovan Levice and SO TJ Slávia Šafárik University Košice the first ten of the 2001/02 Extraliga , and the ŠK HOFFER Komárno and the ŠK Softip Rajecké Teplice were promoted from the 1st division. The twelve teams played a simple round-robin tournament on eight boards, the number of team points (three points for a win, one point for a tie, no point for a defeat), then the direct comparison and then the number of board points decided on the placement (one point for a winning game, half a point for a draw game, no point for a losing game). The last two were relegated and replaced by the winners of the two seasons of the 1st league.

Events

The competitions took place on October 19 and 20, November 23 and 24, December 14 and 15, 2002, January 12, February 1 and 2, and March 1 and 2, 2003.

Season course

The defending champion ŠK Slovan Bratislava , the ŠK Hydina Košice and the promoted ŠK HOFFER Komárno fought a three-way battle for the title, which Komárno won in the last round. The ŠO TJ Slávia UPJŠ Košice and the juniors of the ŠK Slovan Bratislava were determined to be relegated early.
