Jody Hull (born February 2, 1969 in Petrolia , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach who played 900 games for the Hartford Whalers , New York Rangers , Ottawa Senators , Florida Panthers during his playing career between 1985 and 2004 , Tampa Bay Lightning and Philadelphia Flyers in the National Hockey League on the position of right winger . Since the beginning of the 2012/13 season he has been the head coach of the Peterborough Petes from the Ontario Hockey League , where he had been an assistant coach since the 2005/06 season .
Career
Hull spent his junior years between 1985 and 1988 with the Peterborough Petes in the Ontario Hockey League . In the three years the striker collected 225 scorer points in a total of 210 games . He was also selected in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft in the first round in 18th place by the Hartford Whalers from the National Hockey League .
For the 1988/89 season, Hull finally switched to the professional field and played for the Whalers in the NHL until the summer of 1990, before he was given in exchange for Carey Wilson and a third-round vote in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft to the New York Rangers . With the Rangers, the attacker was sedentary for the following two years, mainly for their farm teams in the American Hockey League . In the summer of 1992 he was then handed over to the Ottawa Senators , where he held a regular place in the NHL squad and fulfilled the last year of his current contract. As a free agent , Hull joined the Florida Panthers in August 1993 . There he found a new sporting home for the next four and a half years and reached with the team in the 1995-96 season , the final of the Stanley Cup before he in January 1998 together with Mark Fitzpatrick , and in exchange for Dino Ciccarelli and Jeff Norton to the Tampa Bay Lightning was dropped. There Hull fulfilled his contract until the end of the season.
For the 1998/99 season , the Canadian moved again as a free agent to the Philadelphia Flyers . The three years in Philadelphia were only interrupted by a minor episode in the summer of 1999 when he was selected by the Atlanta Thrashers in the 1999 NHL Expansion Draft in June . The Flyers brought Hull back to their franchise in October without having played a game for Atlanta. After the 2000/01 season , however, they did not extend their employment relationship with the attacker, so that his ex-team from Ottawa only signed him in January 2002. At the beginning of the 2003/04 season was promoted to playing assistant coach under head coach John Paddock at Ottawa's farm team Binghamton Senators from the AHL. After the season, the winger ended his active career at the age of 35 and with 900 NHL appearances.
Hull paused between 2004 and 2005, initially for a year and took on an assistant coach position with the Peterborough Petes from the OHL for the 2005/06 season . After he had filled this position between 2008 and 2010 with a lower class junior team, he returned to the Petes in his own capacity for the 2010/11 season . For the 2012/13 season he was promoted to head coach. In addition, Hull supervised the Canadian U18 national team at the U18 Junior World Championship 2013 as an assistant coach and at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2014 as head coach. Both tournaments ended with the Canadians winning the tournament.

For his home country, Hull ran at the Junior World Championships in Moscow in 1988 . He won the gold medal with the Canadians. He himself contributed two goals and one template to win the world title in the seven tournament games.
