Old Synagogue (Elmshorn)

The synagogue in Elmshorn , a town in the Pinneberg district in Schleswig-Holstein , was built in 1845. The synagogue was on Flamweg. The inauguration took place on January 21, 1846 by the chief rabbi from Altona Jakob Ettlinger .

The synagogue was set on fire during the November pogrom in 1938 . The ruin stood until after 1945, it was used as an air raid shelter during the war . After the end of the war the synagogue building was demolished.

Commemoration

A memorial stone in memory of the synagogue is located on the corner of Neue Straße and Flamweg. On November 9, 2010, the newly designed Synagogue Square was inaugurated.

New synagogue

Since October 2012 there is a new synagogue at Flamweg 4–6 in Elmshorn.
